The European Union established the 2020 climate and energy package, setting three
key targets, namely a 20% cut in greenhouse gas emissions,
a 20% improvement in
energy efficiency and a 20% of EU energy from renewable energy. This set of binding
legislation was enacted in 200
9 to ensure that EU meets its climate and energy targets.
The fact that
about 41% of the EU energy consumption is coming from the building
sector, imposes for the implementation of EU directives to its Member States for the
building sector's energy performance, such as 2010/31/EU and 2012/27/EU.
In this dissertation the EYATH S.A, office building, will be examined and ways to
make it a nearly zero
-
energy building will be proposed, as commercial buildings are
major energy consumers. Regarding the methodology
applied in this study; a specific
measuring equipment and KENAK software are used to examine the indoor
environmental conditions of the building. Measurements from seventeen temperature/
relative humidity data loggers, a lux meter and a comfort meter were
used in order to
determine the prevailing indoor comfort conditions of the EYATH SA. The energy
performance of the office building is assessed with the help of KENAK software, and
three retrofitting measures are examined, with respect to potential energy
savings. The
results occur from the impact on the energy consumption and the financial analysis.
