Green Supply Chain Management has emerged as a key environmental issue which
incorporates environmental concerns into supply chains. Organizations nowadays are
accountable and obliged to uphold their environmental performance. Global supply chains
have comprehensive goals, and the success of GSCM is to bring the industry toward
sustainable development. GSCM has increased recognition with academics and practitioners.
The aim of this paper is to briefly review the recent related literature defining GSCM
conception, classifying the main items of its practices and determining the new direction area
of this emerging field. In order to efficiently “go-green”, the business needs to communicate
this effort to customers, partners, and the public. This paper shows the reasons why
organizations would choose for a green supply chain and discusses the key drivers for this
initiative as a competitive advantage, which includes positive financial ROI, improved
customer and public relations, government compliance etc. The analysis purpose is on
GSCM’s development and its impact on rising supply chain effectiveness, improving
investor affairs, reducing risk and a better Corporate Social Responsibility toward
sustainability. Farther we discuss the operational function that supply chain management has
had inside the cement industry and elaborate general facts in a specific case of the TITAN
Group and one of its subsidiaries, ANTEA Cement operating in Albania. Finally we indicate
the importance of increasing and exchanging the green supply chain to every part of the
supply chain like supplier’s supplier and customer’s customer and even linking up with
competitors. The result will be greener supply chain that involves fewer capital, has less
operating expenses, and presents a competitive advantage.
