heal.abstract
This dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Banking &
Finance at the
International Hellenic University.
The corporate activity of share repurchasing follows increasingly trends over the last 3
decades and i
t has been analyzed many times in the past from different point of views.
The matters that are used to be analyzed more are these of wealth effects during the
announcement day, the agency cost and finally the wealth effects of share repurchase
to the share
holders
long
-
run.
The current st
udy tries to spot light
on very important
corporate action, this of share repurchase activity
and its wealth effects to the
shareholders log
-
run
. The study includes companies only from the financial area of
the
United Kingdo
m and listed on the
London Stock Exchange. The share repurchase
activities of the
companies that included in my
sample
have been
executed and
completed successfully durin
g the period of 2006
-
2014 and I
investigate if this
corporate action can create positi
ve or negativ
e value to the shareholders.
The models
that I used for my study are two, firstly the BHARs model and secondly the regression
analysis.
My
results could be characterized neutral for the first six months of 2015
while during second term
of 2015
recorded small positive
values
