This thesis was written as a part of the MSc in Communications and Cybersecurity at
the International Hellenic University. Its aim is to examine antenna array radiation pattern
synthesis in the millimeter wave bands, for use in future 5G applications. After a
literature review in 5G, millimeter waves, antenna arrays and beamforming, two pattern
synthesis algorithms were developed in Matlab, in order to synthesize radiation patterns
and review the results. One algorithm was based on the solution of a linear system,
while the other was based on the Fourier transform method. After the comparison of the
results, it is concluded that the Fourier transform algorithm is performing better and as
expected than the linear system algorithm.
