Over the last decades, the European energy market liberalization process is unfolding.
In this study, we provide an overview of the energy market status of South-East Europe
countries compared to the relevant European acquis. We explore how delignitization,
gas pipelines, the Energy Community, interconnection infrastructures interact with the
national markets under the scope of a liberalized European Internal Market. Further, we
reflect on the geopolitical role of the Balkan peninsula and the delays of the energy
market reforms in the region.
