This dissertation was written as a part of the MSc in Data Science at the International Hellenic University. This research is focused on exploring and exploiting chaos theory in blockchain technology. Blockchain is a decentralized peer-to-peer network that stores information and value without the need for intermediate authorities. Chaos theory can describe the unpredictable behavior of deterministic systems. The exploitation of chaos engineering was brought by applying a chaos-based hash function (CHA1) in a proof-of-work algorithm. Increased complexity in the mining process was introduced; thus, the need for increased computing power for mining was necessary. Exploration of hyperchaotic behavior was being made in a selection of cryptocurrencyprices.Findings suggest the existence of low dimensional chaotic behavior in Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, and Ripple. While Dash ,IOTA, and Monero do not provide embedded chaos.
