This dissertation was written as a part of the MSc in Data Science at the International Hellenic University. Pandemics are a critical problem in our society these days. Several technology solutions are used to confront this problem. One of them is contact tracing apps. These apps usually face data privacy issues. The latest European Union legislation for users’ data protection comes into conflict with the existing contact tracing apps. The purpose of this study is the development of a contact tracing application that follows the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This application is designed with Block-chain technology and it is deployed with the Python Django framework. Finally, this thesis evaluates the success rate of the app according to GDPR and further discusses challenges that are rose during the development process.
