This dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Strategic Product Design at the International Hellenic University.
The following dissertation concerns the rediscovery of the scales. One step beyond the conventional scale, a research is being done to create a futuristic appliance for the modern kitchen. It concerns the user who loves innovation and invests in it. So, giving an eerie feeling to our kitchen, at the same time we have fun cooking with our loved ones. When cooking is over, the scales take on another use, becoming a decoration, a floating vase for example. The device is given a versatility and an opportunity to be used to the fullest.
The research conducted through the dissertation is a synthesis of information and data that create the result. The main objective of this thesis is to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of the magnetic levitation mechanism in relation with weighting. This is an idea that is presented for future research in order to recognize its safety and functionality for its integration into everyday life.
