heal.abstract
The purpose of this article is to explore the technology, ar-chitecture and digital governance of smart cities. This research aims to develop a general model for the design and governance of digital spaces in smart cities. The term "smart city" is used to describe how information and communication technologies contribute to the operation of cities by improving efficiency, in-creasing competitiveness, and providing solutions to address in-equality, unemployment, social exclusion, and improving the urban environment. Smart city originates from the integration of three basic components: "city", "innovation and knowledge management system" and "digital space". The digital space of a smart city is composed of broadband networks, digital applica-tions and electronic services, which are provided to residents, tourists, businesses and other organizations in the city. Investigations on the literature, technology and applications of smart cities are going to be applied in Patras. The city’s vision is to create a digital space to support the city’s shopping malls, in-cluding electronic services related to underground transportation, which will also affect trade, Leisure, and tourism. At the end of this master's thesis, a general model of smart city digital space design and governance is introduced, especially their specific applications.
