This thesis was created as part of the MSc in Strategic Product Design at the
International Hellenic University. This study examines the influence of user interface
design, specifically navigation, on user satisfaction when engaging with e-commerce
platforms. The text presents in detail the theoretical factors and procedures, which
must be taken into account to achieve a high level of usability. Then, we studied the
case of an e-commerce application for booking ferry tickets, called Ferryhopper, for
which we conducted user testing, observing the performance of users and focusing on
the problematic points of their user experience. At the end of this process, we
proceeded to a statistical representation of their results and based on these we
proposed some design improvements in specific steps, which will increase the
functionality and facilitate the navigation in the application. In this way we will prove
how feasible it is by making specific targeted design interventions in an application, we
can achieve a high level of effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction, avoiding the
solution of a total redesign, which would require extra time and money.
