The outbreak of the pandemic of covid-19 virus was an unprecedented situation for the
whole world. All sorts of company had to adapt to a completely new situation and apply
new management techniques. Even if as a nation Greece was not familiarized with the
idea of distance working, and many of the citizens could not even imagine working
from home, everyone had to adapt to these new parameters in order to survive. During
the first wave of the pandemic none of those businesses was ready to support full time
home working. During the second wave though everyone was prepared and many small
businesses that were going to be destroyed by this situation developed online stores and
managed to survive. Different types of teleworking were applied, and virtual teams
were formed, while many of the employers were living in different cities. Software such
as Skype, Zoom and MS Teams became part of our everyday life supporting relentlessly
online meetings and not only, since even schooling was an online process. These kinds
of crisis show to the world of businesses, especially to small local businesses, the
importance of having good management team which can immediately coordinate and
support the workers of the company. A good manager must be innovative and always
one step across in order to support his colleagues during periods of crisis. In this project
we will try to clarify the opinion of people about remote working and the consequences
of the pandemic in the economy and on the function of businesses in Greece, by
analyzing the results of a questionnaire which was distributed to 60 persons. From the
research which was conducted, the conclusion was that both men and women, of all
ages have similar opinions when it comes to the negative impact of the pandemic on
the economy. Their opinions also incline when it comes to the psychology and the
relations between workers. Management skills are important for the normal function of
the company, and a good manager must be a good leader, well-organized, disciplined,
and communicative. According to the participants opinion, most people were made to
work from home and half of them will probably keep working from home after the end
of the pandemic. Office work is considered higher in quality from most of the people
when compared to work done from home, but the latest is considered as an effective
measure against covid-19. Finally, teleworking makes people feel more organized and
autonomous, with less stress and more personal time. On the other hand, it makes them
feel isolated, lacking communication and bored, while they also find it hard to set the
limits between their personal life and their career, making them more stressed.
