The number of android devices has increased rapidly the last few years. It is remarkable that in 2020 the android users worldwide are about 1.6 billion with the number continuing to keep growing day by day. Also it is expected for 2021 to have an increase of 7.7%. with the android share of mobiles worldwide OS to be 72 %. This progressive growth has made the devices a potential target for cyber criminals and law enforcements. It is clear that forensics and investigations on android have started to become a need for the cyber security field with new tools being created and new research to take place. However many challenges still exist while examining Android devices. This dissertation presents general information and the Android structure as well as the main arti-facts. Additionally, investigates the different methods on retrieving memory and artifacts from both internal and external memories of the device, the challenges that these methodologies have and how to analyze all the above in order for the investigator to find important evidence for the case and the user of the device.
