With the use of mouse tracking technology, we investigated user behavior when
engaging with web creation platform, just like WordPress, which belong to the same
group of EUD systems. This research may give a fuller picture of user behavior when
faced with high cognitive demands, such as decision-making and task development.
We look at the possibility of a link between mouse behavioral patterns and a collection
of End-User Development (EUD) behavioral traits in this exploratory study.
We undertake two tests with 19 end-users engaging with a web based EUD tool for the
creation of basic web sites, which is the WordPress platform. Participants filled out
two questionnaires on the behavioral characteristics we wanted to look at, and then
we compared the results to the metrics produced from mouse tracking. During the
development phase, we discovered some strong connections between end-user
behavioral variables (Ease of use, self-efficacy, willingness to learn, and risk
perception) and mouse measurements. More specifically, self-efficacy can be
correlated with metrics like total movements, average speed, and variance moves time
since. The findings of this study point to a new research avenue worth exploring and
may encourage the EUD research community to dig further into end-user mouse
behavior in today's web based EUD systems.
