Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is featured in an emerging field with various
complex data models, strict time requirements, and dynamic requirements. On the other hand,
cybersecurity is featured as an essential aspect in ITS, and it is a complex task that depends on the
safety and efficiency of transportation. To improve all these activities and ensure security, it is
essential to understand the ITS architecture using the MITRE ATT&CK framework to understand
the different activities. ITS is featured with various security issues that hinder it from conducting
multiple activities to meet its objectives. The main security approaches that are noted in the ITS
include the initialization and the configuration of different devices during the process of
manufacturing of the perception layer of the ITS, the anonymous architecture of other nodes in the
VANET at the network layer of the ITS, how to successfully defend the fog-based structures that
are conducted at the system layer and also the standardization and the description of the various
complex data and other metadata and defending of the system according to the AI at the application
layer. The use of different approaches, both conventional, innovative, and intelligent approaches,
are significant for helping in the improvement of security within the ITS and ensuring that they
work most appropriately. MITRE ATT&CK framework helps to ensure that these activities are
achieved and the ITS work in the most appropriate way. Improving cybersecurity within the ITS
is essential for ensuring that the smart cities can work most suitable to provide different services
to the passengers
