The role of Organised Crime, Terrorism, and the Internet in the Illicit Antiquities Trade. The legal perception of the phenomenon.
The role of organized crime, terrorism, and the Internet in the antiquities black market is still unspecified and frequently debated. The lack of data and evidence, because of the secretive and clandestine nature of such transactions, challenges both scholars’ attempts to define the market and policy efforts to build an effective legal framework. Based on scholarly publications, original research, and case studies this paper attempts to shed light on the complexities of the antiquities market, its size, and the participants involved.
