The scope of the present MA thesis is to study the iconography of a group of coins of the Imperial Era issued in the Province of Macedonia and bearing representations of buildings on their reverses. Throughout the study of 142 coins from Pella, Dion, Thessaloniki, Cassandreia, Philippi, Stobi and the Koinon of Macedonia, an effort is made to classify typologically and chronologically the specific representations and to connect the depicted monuments to actual buildings, which came to light either from excavations or from coin catalogues and auctions. The aim of the present thesis is, also, to understand the symbolism of specific representations in connection with the historical context, in which these specific coins belong to. Furthermore, due to the publication of a large number of coins from the Koinon of Macedonia, are also discussed on the one hand the institution and the responsibilities of the Koinon and on the other hand the institution of Neokoria for carrying out the imperial cult.
