Aluminium cans are a common presence in our lives when it comes to consuming fresh beverages
in our day to day. The inherent nature of the consumption of this good is fertile ground for
discussion on whether their End-Of-Life processes are more influenced by consumer behaviour
or legislature. This paper aims to gather evidence to prove that indeed effective recycling policies
rest in the consumers involvement. In order to discuss the matter a statistical analysis of
influential factors across European Countries in the success, or lack of it, in aluminium can
recycling will be performed. A series of items will be considered jointly with active policies:
Extended Producer Responsibility, Deposit System and Scrap System. These legislatures
currently active on the European continent favour to different degrees the contribution of EndUser to the End-Of-Life treatment of the cans. A quantitative analysis on collected data of
different Member States performance in regards to Recycling Rates for Aluminium cans in period
2015-2019 will prove that the implementation of the Deposit System has greater positive effects
compared to other policies.
