heal.abstract
This dissertation was written as part of the EMBA at the International Hellenic University. The theme of the research is motivation in the Greek public sector. This study’s main purpose was initially to analyze the motivators and the demotivators, affecting the performance and the attitude of the employees. In addition to the factors of motivation, reference was made to the support received by the employees from their supervisor and their organization. Also an important topic of the survey was the job satisfaction and the factors affecting it. Lastly it was investigated the commitment to the organization. At the beginning, the literature regarding these topics was analyzed thoroughly. Then, a face to face structured interview was used for the purposes of the research. The questions were prepared before hand and they were common for every person in order to facilitate the analysis procedure. At this study, were interviewed 20 persons working at the public sector as permanent staff or with contract. All of the respondents were working at the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, as part of the scientific or the technical staff of veterinary laboratories. This research is a qualitative study as it focuses mainly on the interpretation of the results, the better understanding of the human behaviour, and the social background in which takes place. The findings of the research were discussed, correlated and compared with the relevant literature. Finally, the results of the survey led to some conclusions and to some useful proposals for the management of the human resource and for the proper function of the public sector
