The purpose of this dissertation is to identify monetary value of environmental, social and governance (ESG) actions in the chemicals industry using the return on sustainability investment (ROSI) framework. This dissertation was written as part of the MSc in International Accounting, Auditing and Financial Management at the International Hellenic University. Nowadays, chemicals play a significant part in people's daily lives all over the world and are utilized to create almost every product that has been created by humans. The target firm is BASF which is the largest chemical manufacturer in the world and a German multinational corporation. We collected data from BASF for the year period 2018 and 2021 and analyzed the sustainability program in these years. We focused on the water waste and recycling within the firm by using ROSI’s resources and tools. We calculated the benefits and the costs of following a sustainable business model and we found out especially for BASF that has a Return of Sustainability Investment 126%. This was achieved by operation efficiencies being the most important factor.
