This dissertation was written as part of the LLM in Transnational and European
Commercial Law, Banking Law, Arbitration/Mediation at the International Hellenic
University.
After a short introduction that mainly includes the explanation of basic concepts
related to personal data and their processing, this dissertation deals, inter alia, with
the issue of consent as a legitimate reason for data processing. The conditions that
must be met in order for the consent given to be valid and to meet the prerequisites
set by the Regulation are also analyzed. Consent is also examined when given by
specific categories of natural persons, such as children and employees.
At the same time, an extensive report is made to the Hellenic Data Protection
Authority. At first, an introduction regarding its establishment and duties is made,
while the responsibility for imposing administrative fines is specifically examined, as
provided for in Article 83 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and in
the implementing law 4624/2019. Finally, the imposition of these administrative
fines is correlated with the principle of proportionality.
