heal.abstract
This research was carried out to establish the role of funding on the operations of Humanitarian organizations in Greece. The research had four specific objectives: To examine the demographic characteristics of Humanitarian Non-Governmental Organizations(HNGOs) and their Directors; To examine the funding patterns of HNGOs; To assess the impact of funding on the operations of HNGOs; To assess the impact of funding on the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian operations of HNGOs. A survey was conducted and the results analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. The study population was the twenty non-governmental organizations operating in Greece according to law No. 4686/2020 of the Ministry of migration and Asylum. The entire population was targeted for the study and fifteen Directors from HNGOs willingly participated. Data was analyzed using percentages, mean, charts and tables. The Chi-Square and the Spearman Rank Correlation were adopted to verify the hypothesis. The study found that, funding has a substantial impact on the operations of humanitarian non-governmental organization in Greece. The findings further established that, whereas the level of education and years of experience are the main demographic characteristics of the HNGOs and their Directors in Greece that affect the efficiency of operation, external funding is moderately correlated with the scope of activities and significantly affect the efficiency and effectiveness on the operations of Humanitarian NGOs in Greece.
