Significant changes have occurred in human civilization since the first industrial revolution, resulting in a complete transformation of our way of life. These changes have been
started with the first industrial revolution that mechanized manufacturing with the power of steam, followed by the second industrial revolution that facilitated mass production with electricity, and the third digital revolution that ushered in the digital era. Currently, the world is undergoing the fourth industrial revolution, which involves the extensive digitalization of not only the tools used by organizations but also their processes
which is characterized by the integration of many different technologies at the same
time.
This dissertation aims to create a holistic assessment of the technology foresight awareness among Thessaloniki’s ICT companies. We will investigate what technologies and
business audit tools they use, and the key enabling technologies of Industry 4.0 they utilize. Also, we will create useful insights into the technological and strategic capabilities
of these companies by examining the opportunities and challenges they face.
Based on the valuable insights provided by this study, there are key recommendations
for both ICT companies and the government in Thessaloniki. Companies should prioritize collaboration and knowledge sharing, allocate resources to research and development, attract and retain skilled individuals, and focus on innovation and customercentric solutions. The government, on the other hand, should establish policies and initiatives that create a favorable business environment, encourage public-private partnerships, allocate resources for research and education, and support digital transformation
initiatives. The future scope for ICT companies in Thessaloniki is promising, with a focus on embracing new technologies, enhancing collaboration, and investing in talent
development.
