Female entrepreneurship is an issue that undergoes great blossom during last decades, as groups of people have realized globally its considerable impact to economy and society development. It is a drive of wealth and profit across countries. For this reason, a full comprehension of entrepreneurial female matters is required. Specifically, the fact of genesis of women entrepreneurship demands great attention, so as policy makers are aware of and able to contribute to complete exploitation of women entrepreneurial spirit.
The purpose of this study is to examine start-up phenomenon in Greece, by focusing on new female entrepreneurs. Especially, it sheds light to how socio-demographic, cognitive and contextual factors influence the decision of females to enter entrepreneurship. Besides, it investigates the barriers that new women business owners experience and the way they view success.
The methodology used is qualitative. Primary data are collected by means of in-depth interviews, arranged face-to-face or by phone. These data are interpreted by qualitative content analysis and discussed with reference to secondary data, collected by sources such as publications, website articles and books. The main findings are that women are influenced more or less by a combination of factors and in general terms they are more personal oriented with regard to entrepreneurship. Results are summarized and actions are recommended in the end.
