This dissertation was written as part of the MSc in Sustainable Development at the In-ternational Hellenic University.
Increased globalization and continuous outsourcing combined with the need for Sus-tainable Development consideration have resulted in the introduction of sustainable supply chains. Sustainable supply chains aim at achieving economic success while at the same time being responsible for their environmental and social performance. Therefore, supply chains of every individual sector are now trying to incorporate Sus-tainable Development into their practices. The agrifood constitutes a special sector, because of its specific characteristics and sensitivity. Therefore, sustainable agrifood supply chains also require special attention and study.
This thesis concerns the convergence of sustainability and supply chains in the agri-food sector. It is a study that intends to identify the potential benefits of sustainability incorporation in agrifood supply chains and to research on sustainability consideration in this area in Greece, focusing mainly on the social level and the use of technology, with the use of Delphi method. Its purpose is to demonstrate experts’ views from the agrifood sector and to underline issues that need to be addressed in sustainable supply chain management in the agrifood sector.
